Taught jointly with Fung John Chye and Meng Ta Cheang (part-time)
15 students (6 Year 3 students and 9 Year 4 students). Engagement with civic societies and government agencies.
On 24 May 2010, Singapore and Malaysia agreed on the issue of the Malayan Railway Land in Singapore. Malaysia will move the KTMB station from Tanjong Pagar Railway Station to Woodlands Train Checkpoint, thus making all the railway land available to the Singapore government for development by 1 July 2011. There is no announcement yet on how the government would develop the land. It is a rare opportunity of nearly 26 km long of continuous linear space from north to south, connecting different parts of Singapore. This studio proposed a masterplan for the rail corridor and specific designs at various locations with presentations made to civic society groups – Nature Society, Heritage Society, Green Corridor and government agencies – URA, NParks, HDB and MOE. The works were also part of the travelling exhibition of Re-Imagining the Rail Corridor.
Video of Rail Corridor – Students walked the 26 km long rail corridor and made a stop frame video from 2,000 photos taken. It is a valuable study of the condition of the corridor and the video was referred to by international consultants who took part in the Rail Corridor masterplan competition (1,970 views)
